Obama Is Stepping Back Into Politics and Planning to Nudge Democrats to the Center
Barack Obama’s plans are changing.
Initially planning to stay on the sidelines for much of the 2020 election, The New York Times reports that the former president is “moving off the political sidelines” to try and play a role in 2020. Obama is reportedly concerned that Medicare for all and far-left immigration proposals are going to alienate moderate voters he turned into one of the most dominant Democratic coalitions of recent memory.
On Thursday night, Obama is expected to dive into those concerns at a donor event in San Francisco, giving him an opportunity to respond to the Democratic debates from Wednesday night. The former president hasn’t been shy about his feelings recently, and cautiously waded into the primary contest last week by warning party activists and donors about veering too far to the left.
